What to do on Training Rest Days.

What to do on Training Rest Days.

Rest days are essential if you are playing sport or exercising a lot. They can help you reset both physically and mentally.

If you do not take rest days, your body will be overworked, you will feel fatigued, unmotivated and you will not perform at the level you would hope to. (Watch this space for an upcoming blog on signs and symptoms of overtraining).

Being fatigued and overtrained also increases the chance of injury, so taking a day off is extremely important if you want to perform at your best and get the most out of your exercise regime.

Take care of your body and your body will take care of you.

Here are a few tips for you to feel rested and fresh for the next block of training.

  • Move – Actively recover.

Do not just sit down all day, go for a walk to the coffee shop, ride around the block or go for a light swim. Gentle exercise is better than no exercise as it helps your muscles recover faster by increasing blood flow and improving circulation to help you feel fresher.

  • Get a Massage.

Sports massage helps with DOM’s (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), improves flexibility, prevents injury, and reduces fatigue, leaving you feeling relaxed and recovered. Here at Myogen, we tailor our massage treatments specifically to your needs.

  • Normatec recovery system.

There are so many benefits to using the Normatec’s! They increase circulation, relieve muscle soreness and increases mobility of fascia and joints. We have Normatec boots, hips and arm garments which can be used for a minimum of 30-minute per session.

  • Stretch, Roll, and use your Trigger Point Ball.

Stretching, using your foam roller and trigger point ball will go a long way in improving your flexibility and mobility which will decrease your chances of injury. The most important thing to remember here is consistency. Do all of these everyday! Little bits often is the key. A couple of minutes of some or all of these methods, four to six times a day is the most effective way to chip away at those tight joints and muscles.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PejOwgTw8O8 – here are some general foam rolling exercises which are great for recovery in any kind of exercise. Have a look through all the exercises on the Myogen Youtube channel. You may find a little gold nugget in there for your recovery needs.

Myogen is here to help you perform at your best. Come see us for your next recovery massage or Normatec appointment. Don’t hesitate to get in contact if you have any questions regarding a recovery program that best suits your needs.
